Biography

Singer /Songwriter Hassanah could be the music world’s best kept secret that is about to be told. Her sound combines a soothing blend of sweetness and light with a maturity and soulfulness seldom heard in todays rnb. If you listened through Young Jeezy’s album ‘The Inspiration’ then you’ve heard her singing the hook on track 12 ‘what you talking bout’ but it only hints at everything Hassanah has to offer.
“Hassanah is different than a lot of artists out there. There’s just something very special about the sound of her voice”-(Jacob Gabriel, The Level Productions)

She has recently released a limted edition three song cd fittingly entitled ‘Just Like Heaven’. The Title track has been a Surprise hit in the Chicago step scene and showcases her pure vocal quality and way with words. It has an infectious and lightly rhythmic hook that leaves the listener feeling uplifted and touched. Next up is a Reggae track called ‘Feel’ recorded with Jamaica’s Legendary producer Bobby Dixon Digital at Digtal B Studios in Kingston. The 3rd song ‘With Me, With You’ is a collaboration that came together in Hawaii with the Samoan production duo Slapp Symphony and long time friend and producer Jacob Gabriel (who produced Just Like Heaven). Its a feel good love song with a catchy melody and strong track that makes it perfect to ride to.

Hassanah’s cultural background and extensive travels lend a beautifully exotic touch to her look and sound. She has Nigerian, German and Native American roots and grew up in Nigeria, USA, New Zealand and Hawaii. She is trained in Polynesian song and dance and as a member of the group Sisters Underground (with her friend and fellow singer Brenda Makamoeafi) she was the recipient of a New Zealand Music Award for ‘Most Promising New Artist’
‘Hassanah is very versatile. She’s able to cross into a lot of musical genres with a lot of skill.. Jazz, Reggae, rnb..whatever. She has that angelic quality to her voice that’s just a pleasure to listen to. Its not often that you find an artist with her depth of spirit and talent that has the beauty and humility to match.”- (Darryl Small, New York Press)
